US President Donald Trump said Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants a peace deal more than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy does.
The remark came three days after a phone call in which, according to the Kremlin, Putin told Trump that Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and polling stations during last month’s Russian election had undermined the chance of immediately resuming trilateral peace talks.
Moscow has said it will consider when those talks can resume.
Even though Trump declared Sunday that Moscow and Kyiv had agreed to an "energy truce" effective immediately, Russia continued attacking Ukraine's energy facilities, according to Zelenskiy, who has criticized the diesel deal as a show of weakness.
