A delegation led by Cyprus Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Athena Michaelidou visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial, accompanied by Armenia’s Ambassador to Cyprus Inna Torgomyan and Cyprus Ambassador to Armenia Michael Mavros. This was reported by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation.
The guests were welcomed by Lusine Abrahamyan, Deputy Director for Museum Affairs at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. She presented the history of the Memorial’s construction, its architectural features and significance.
Athena Michaelidou laid a wreath at the memorial commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The guests then laid flowers at the eternal flame, paying tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.
Lusine Abrahamyan escorted the guests to the Memorial Wall, behind which, in special niches, are placed small urns containing soil taken from the graves of a number of foreign public and political figures, intellectuals and missionaries who raised their voices in protest against the mass massacres of Armenians and the genocide perpetrated by the Turkish government in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Members of the delegation from Cyprus also visited the Armenian Genocide Museum, where, accompanied by Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute guide Mary Yegikyan, they familiarized themselves with the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions.
At the end of the tour, the head of the delegation made an entry in the Guest Book of Honour.
At the end of the visit, Lusine Abrahamyan, Deputy Director for Museum Affairs at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, thanked the delegation for the visit and presented Ms. Athena Michaelidou with books on the Armenian Genocide.
