Discoveries: Microphone

A microphone is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound in air into an electrical signal. The first microphone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Bell.

It was a pipe filled with water. In the same year Bell presented the microphone at an exhibition held in Philadelphia. After some period of time another inventor, Emile Berliner, created a new coal-based microphone and patented it.
