United States is committed to engaging towards a lasting political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: US Embassy to Armenia

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated yesterday that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs should not deal with the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, as it is resolved. He also said that Azerbaijan would prevent any attempt by the OSCE Minsk Group to deal with the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. In addition, the President of Azerbaijan also made several anti-Armenian statements.

‘Lurer’ sent a request to the US Embassy to Armenia on Aliyev’s recent statements, as well as the recent military provocation in Baku on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The answer of the US diplomatic mission in Armenia is presented below:

• Continued tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan underscore the need for a negotiated, comprehensive, and sustainable settlement of all remaining issues related to or resulting from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
• As an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, the United States is committed to engaging towards a lasting political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
• We call for deescalation, including by withdrawing troops, demarcating the border, and returning detainees.
