Israel’s Knesset voted in the early hours of July 17 to dissolve itself ahead of elections scheduled for October 27.
According to The Times of Israel, the motion to dissolve parliament, attached to a bill on party financing, was approved by 62 of the Knesset’s 120 members, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As a result, the legislature has adjourned until the swearing-in of the next parliament following the elections.
During the recess, parliamentary committees may convene by special arrangement, while the government or a group of 25 lawmakers may request that the Knesset hold a plenary session.
In the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will seek another term in office despite a decline in his domestic popularity.
