Unknown armed people opened fire near the mausoleum of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. According to Iranian media reports, four people were killed.
The funeral ceremony of Iran’s Supreme Leader took place in his birthplace, Mashhad. He was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine, where President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash two years ago, was also laid to rest.
Due to the unprecedented influx of mourners who came to pay their respects to Khamenei, the organizers were forced to urgently change the planned route. The motorcade was unable to pass through the "wall" of mourners near the mausoleum, and therefore the Supreme Leader’s remains were transported to the burial site by helicopter.
