Iran must cover costs of military mission to demine Strait of Hormuz: German Foreign Ministry

German Foreign MinisterJohannes Wadephul has defended the position that Iran should bear the financial costs of a European naval operation to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz. His words were published by Der Spiegel.

It is not yet clear whether the Bundeswehr will participate in the mission to ensure the safety of shipping in the area. A decision is expected this summer, but it depends on the progress of peace talks between Iran and the United States. In addition, the Bundestag's consent is required for Germany's participation in the mission.
