Armenian monasteries in Turkey in danger
The 7th century Artsvaberd monastery in Erciş district of Turkey’s Van province is on the verge of destruction. According to Ermenihaber, the monastery, targeted by treasure hunters, is deteriorating day by day: the people living nearby have turned it into a garbage dump. The Armenian church in Ergan village of Dersim province is also on the verge of elimination. On the paper, it is under the protection of the state, but has never been reconstructed. The church, built in 975, is periodically under attack by treasure hunters. There are still Armenian writings on the church walls.
