Armenia’s future in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will depend on discussions among member states, as Yerevan is currently not participating in the organization’s activities de facto, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
“You know that Yerevan is currently not participating in the work of the CSTO de facto. You have heard Armenia’s official statements regarding its position on the advisability of participating in the CSTO. Certain steps are indeed stipulated in the organization’s founding documents. What happens next will depend on the nature of the discussions within the organization,” Peskov told journalists.
His remarks came in response to a question about the Kremlin’s position on the situation surrounding Armenia and the CSTO.
Earlier, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov said the organization’s Collective Security Council could consider suspending Armenia’s voting rights and its citizens’ nominations for quota-based positions within the organization.
