A delegation from the Leipzig city authorities, headed by Leipzig Deputy Mayor for Culture Skadi Jennicke, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial accompanied by Claudia Busch, Germany’s Ambassador to Armenia.
The delegation was welcomed and accompanied during the visit by Hrachya Tashchyan, Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. At the beginning of the visit, he presented the history of the Armenian Genocide Memorial’s construction, its architectural features and significance.
The members of the delegation from Germany laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide and then observed a minute of silence at the eternal flame in memory of the victims.
Hrachya Tashchyan then accompanied the guests to the memorial wall, where the pro-Armenian activities of German figures Johannes Lepsius and Armin Wegner were presented.
The delegation members toured the permanent and temporary exhibitions, learning about the history of the Armenian Genocide, the course of its implementation, the human and cultural losses suffered by the Armenian people, as well as efforts to preserve historical memory.
At the end of the tour, the head of the delegation made an entry in the Armenian Genocide Museum’s Guestbook of Honor.
At the conclusion of the visit, Hrachya Tashchyan, Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, thanked the delegation members for their visit and presented delegation head Skadi Jennicke with a photo book of the Armenian Genocide Museum.
