Independence and effective functioning of NHRIs at Center of meeting between Anahit Manasyan and Debbie Kohner, Secretary General of ENNHRI

On September 24, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan met with Ms. Debbie Kohner, Secretary General of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI), in Brussels.

During the meeting, discussions focused on guarantees for the independence and effective functioning of NHRIs, the challenges existing in this context, as well as prospects for further developing cooperation within the framework of the ENNHRI.

Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized that legislative guarantees of independence must be accompanied by their practical implementation. NHRIs must have the necessary guarantees to effectively implement their mandates.

The Human Rights Defender also emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe and enabling environment for the functioning of NHRIs and excluding any undue interference in their activities.

Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized the effectiveness and importance of the activities of the ENNHRI.

The parties emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation and discussed further prospects for its development.
