A historic decision was adopted at COP17: the operational procedures for the subsidiary body on issues concerning indigenous peoples and local communities—established under Article 8(j) of the Convention on Biological Diversity—have been approved. Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan announced this on his social media page.
"This decision marks an important step toward strengthening the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities, as well as the role of traditional knowledge, in biodiversity conservation efforts," the Minister wrote.
