Assyrian sanctuaries nationalized in Turkey

The Turkey government is expropriating the last Assyrians in the country. As a consequence of the new initiative to enlarge the populated areas, more than fifty Assyrian sanctuaries are being nationalized. The small Christian community is being deprived of the right to own their churches and monastery complexes. This is the most scandalous infringement against the Christian legacy during the years of Erdogan’s government. The Assyrian community claims that by this step the authoritarian regime violates the Treaty of Lausanne.
