Armenia’s withdrawal from organization is not on agenda: CSTO Secretary General

Yerevan has not actively participated in the work of CSTO for the third consecutive year, but attends all weekly consultations of permanent representatives, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov told journalists on the sidelines of the 4th Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.

The Secretary General added that the decision on whether or not to participate should be made by the Armenian Government and people.

According to Masadykov, the Russian Federation has already submitted a draft decision concerning Armenia. He clarified that there are currently no discussions about expelling Armenia from the organization.

Article 25 of the CSTO Charter regulates the measures that may be applied to member states if they fail to fulfil their obligations, namely, if they fail to make contributions to the organization's budget for two years.

In such a case, the country may lose the right to nominate its citizens for quota-based positions within the CSTO. Moreover, Yerevan may also be deprived of its voting rights in the organization's bodies until all outstanding contributions have been paid in full.
