Representatives of US President Donald Trump’s administration and his allies are blaming those who pushed the American leader toward a conflict with Iran for the Republican Party’s possible defeat, CNN reports, citing informed sources.
“Trump’s top political advisers have privately warned for months about the political risks of a war with Iran and that the conflict would likely cost the party votes in these elections. Trump, for his part, has said that the war has significantly undermined his party’s chances in the midterm elections,” the network’s sources explained.
Some of the president’s allies expect him to find someone to take the blame for the Republicans’ election losses. In their view, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is considered potentially vulnerable in this situation.
