US President Donald Trump said the Democratic Party had performed well in the congressional elections.
Speaking to Fox News, the US leader praised the Democrats for putting up a strong fight and achieving a good result.
In an interview with Politico, Trump also said he was ready to work with Democrats and noted that some of them had already called him following the elections.
He said he would work with Democrats to ensure that things were going well in the country.
Trump added that he had already spoken with several members of the Democratic Party leadership.
The US president also reminded Democrats that he had veto power, although he hoped he would not have to use it constantly. He said he did not want to spend the remaining two years simply vetoing everything.
At the same time, Trump said he was somewhat surprised by the election results, adding that he had expected Republicans to perform better.
