At the summit of the Organization of Turkic States, the President of Kazakhstan called for reforming the organization, whose activities now cover 60 areas.
Tokayev also stressed that agreements concluded within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States must not be violated and proposed establishing a council of permanent representatives.
“The Organization of Turkic States is not a military alliance and should not become one in the future. This is Kazakhstan’s position,” the President stressed.
At the summit held in Ankara, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed discussing Russia’s accession to the organization or granting it observer status.
According to him, this would enhance the standing of the Organization of Turkic States. Tokayev recalled Russia’s centuries-old ties with the Turkic world, the Turkic peoples living in the country, and Russia’s “Altai – Cradle of Turkic Civilization” project. He also noted that many Russian words are of Turkic origin.
