There is confusion about the whereabouts of defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, after Brazil cancelled his passports and Argentine officials say he boarded a flight to Ecuador, BBC reports.
Sources had told the BBC earlier on Tuesday that Bolsonaro had arrived in the US.
But Argentine migration authorities later said he had crossed Brazil's land border with Argentina late on Tuesday night local time.
In a tweet, the migration authorities said that he, his wife and two daughters had boarded a private flight headed towards the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador shortly after crossing the border.
The Argentine migration authorities did not provide many details but they did specify that the family had boarded a plane "dispatched by the company Baires Fly S.A." which they said was headed to Guayaquil.
Flight tracking data analysed by BBC Verify suggests a plane with matching ownership details is now on its way to the US after a stop in Guayaquil.
The twin engine Gulfstream jet took off from Puerto Iguazú near the Brazil-Argentina border at 03:18 GMT on Wednesday and landed in Guayaquil at 08:47 GMT, according to Flightradar24.
The same plane then departed from Guayaquil at 09:15 GMT. Its destination is listed as the Opa Locka executive airport north of Miami, Florida, with an arrival time of 13:18 GMT. It is not clear whether Bolsonaro and his family are on board.
