Putin-Zelensky meeting to take place 'very soon': Trump

A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will take place “soon,” U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Oct. 28.

Trump also said there had been “significant progress” in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

“We’re making a lot of progress between Russia and Ukraine. A meeting will be set up very soon,” he said.

Reporters asked Trump who the meeting would be between.

“With President Putin and President Zelenskyy. And I think a lot of progress will be made,” Trump replied.

He did not specify the format of the meeting or whether Zelenskyy and Putin would meet in person.

On Oct. 27, Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin had again invited Zelenskyy to Moscow for talks during a phone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. According to Ushakov, Putin promised that Zelenskyy would be provided with all necessary conditions in Moscow, including security. Ushakov also claimed that Stubb and Støre had told Putin that Zelenskyy was very interested in speaking with him directly.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected the idea of traveling to Moscow for talks, instead inviting Putin to Kyiv.
