Bill introduced in U.S. Congress to cancel diesel deal with Russia

A bipartisan coterie of House members unveiled legislation this week that would undo President Donald Trump’s recent authorization of U.S. purchases of Russian energy — and prevent future such moves.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., would nullify the president’s recent decision allowing the purchase of Russian diesel fuel. It would also disallow future waivers to the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022.

Third, it would require the provision of U.S. intelligence support to Ukraine’s military.

“Our message must be unmistakable: America stands with Ukraine,” Fitzpatrick said on X on Friday afternoon. “Our laws must be upheld. And aggression must carry a cost greater than its reward.”

Fitzpatrick’s bill has two original co-sponsors: Reps. Don Bacon, R-Neb., and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash.

Meanwhile, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, D-N.Y., the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, has unveiled similar legislation that would undo Trump’s easing of energy sanctions on Russia.
