Giorgi Zurabashvili has been appointed as the Georgian Prime Minister’s Special Representative for relations with Russia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at a briefing at the Government Administration, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
Kobakhidze said that Georgia’s key priorities also include peacefully resolving the conflict with Russia, developing existing trade and economic ties, and maintaining dialogue on humanitarian issues.
“Peacefully resolving the conflict with the Russian Federation, maintaining and developing existing trade and economic relations, and holding ongoing dialogue on humanitarian issues are among our country’s most important priorities. In the absence of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Russian Federation, the Prime Minister’s Special Representative’s post, alongside the Geneva format, plays a key role in achieving these goals.
Giorgi Zurabashvili is a highly experienced diplomat. Over the years, he has held various senior public service positions. At the Foreign Ministry, he served as director of several departments and as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister, and on 1 July 2025, First Deputy Foreign Minister.
We are confident that Zurabashvili, with his knowledge and experience, will carry out the tasks of the Prime Minister’s Special Representative to the highest standard,” Kobakhidze said.
