Armenia’s membership in the Peace Council stems from our balanced foreign policy and priorities. The RA Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Ararat Mirzoyan stated at the October 21 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, touching upon the creation of the Peace Council and Armenia’s membership.
The Minister noted that on January 22, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the Charter for the establishment of the Peace Council, as a founding member. The concept of creating this Council was first discussed during the Middle East Summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in October 2025.
At present, the Peace Council consists of 28 member states. According to the Council’s Charter, the membership is granted for a three-year term, with the possibility of extension. This limitation does not apply to states that contribute more than $1 billion to the Council.
The mandate of the Council derives from the UN Security Council Resolution 2803. Its activities are not limited by geographical boundaries, and financial contributions are made on a voluntary basis. Each member state has one vote in the Council.
Addressing the significance of Armenia’s membership, Ararat Mirzoyan also emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Armenia and the United States.
According to him, the establishment of peace, the protection of the peoples’ interests, the benefits derived from peace, and the ensuring of human well-being are consistent both with Armenia’s priorities and with the statutory objectives of the Peace Council.
The draft law On Ratifying the Charter of the Peace Council was endorsed.
