Meeting between Putin and Zelensky is not a prerequisite for deal on Ukraine: Trump

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not necessary to resolve the war, Donald Trump told reporters.

“I think they can sign the peace deal another way. It’s difficult for them to be in the same room. I don’t care how it’s done,” the U.S. president said. He once again spoke of the “tremendous” hatred between Putin and Zelenskyy.

Trump also reiterated his position that Ukraine should agree to the terms being offered to end the war. “Zelenskyy has to be ready to make a deal because I think his people are no longer willing to put up with it,” the U.S. leader said.

Trump also stated that the United States had provided substantial support to Ukraine. “In return, we have received absolutely nothing except grief, death and tremendous financial losses,” Trump added, noting that American taxpayers were tired of it. According to him, European Union countries are also tired of providing financial assistance to Ukraine.
