“This represents a new level of economic cooperation between Armenia and the United States, one that has never existed before. It is clear that the United States will have a significant role here and will pursue its economic interests.” Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made the remarks at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, presenting the draft law on ratifying the Framework Agreement on Strategic Partnership between Armenia and the United States concerning the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project.
According to Mirzoyan, this is an agreement between Armenia and the United States aimed at regulating the activities of the TRIPP company and its subsequent management.
The Minister also emphasized that this is the company that will subsequently build and manage the project and receive concession rights.
“Following the ratification of this agreement, we will have only one or two more documentary steps to complete. That is, we need to sign the shareholders’ agreement and approve the company’s charter. With that, the fundamental documentary steps required to launch TRIPP will presumably have been completed. This agreement is also intended to regulate these matters.”
He added that any infrastructure that becomes operational and any relations that are established will be governed entirely and in detail by several fundamental principles, or within the framework of those principles.
“These principles are familiar to all of you: sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction over infrastructure located within our territory—naturally, the Republic of Armenia’s jurisdiction, which is absolute,” he said, noting that the word “sovereignty” appears eight times in the document.
