Kremlin says it hopes Putin-Witkoff Russia meeting on Ukraine can be organized soon

Reuters. The Kremlin said on Tuesday (October 20) that it hoped a meeting in Russia between President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff could be organized in the near future to discuss the Ukraine peace process.

Witkoff is expected to hold talks in Oslo on Tuesday (October 20) with Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy and representatives from the E4 – made up of Britain, France, Germany, and Poland. Officials from the European Union and NATO are also expected to attend.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Witkoff could brief Putin on the position of the Ukrainians and Europeans when they met.

He did not give further details. Some US media have reported that Witkoff may meet Putin on Wednesday (October 21) in St Petersburg.

At the briefing Peskov also said that Russia believes dialogue with the United States on strategic nuclear stability must be resumed urgently.

Kremlin spokesman who was responding to a question about a possible three-way meeting in China next month between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, said the world lacked a legal framework governing strategic nuclear stability for the first time in history.

Given the complexity of the issues involved, negotiations should begin as soon as possible because any talks would be lengthy, he said.
