Chief adviser to Turkish President condemns restrictions related to school uniforms in Azerbaijan

Oktay Saral, chief adviser to the President of Turkey, has condemned the new restrictions related to school uniforms in Azerbaijan, stressing that it is unacceptable to restrict the right to education of students wearing headscarves in Azerbaijan.

“The headscarf is not an obstacle; it is a requirement of faith. The right to education cannot be sacrificed to ideological imposition. We expect Baku to correct this mistake immediately,” Erdoğan’s chief adviser stressed.

Azerbaijan’s ruling New Azerbaijan Party responded to Saral’s statement by calling for non-interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs. The party reminded that Azerbaijan is a secular state and noted that using the hijab issue for political manipulation and to divide society serves the interests of neither Turkey nor the Muslim world.
