Kyiv subjected to ballistic missile attack

Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles during the day on October 10. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions. Monitoring channels initially suggested that Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles may have been used.

This is reported by BBC Ukraine War.

Before that, jet-powered Shaheds were heading for the capital. According to Ukrenergo, the drone attack knocked out several components of the power grid supplying parts of Kyiv and the region. The company said a significant share of consumers in the region was left without power. DTEK reported widespread outages in the capital and the suspension of stabilization schedules.

At around 13:00, Kyiv Metro said trains and escalators had been temporarily halted because voltage from external power sources had been lost. Service resumed about an hour later, but at longer intervals: 12-15 minutes on the red and green lines and more than 15 minutes on the blue line, where trains ran under dispatch control.

Klitschko also reported debris falling at two locations in the Solomianskyi district. In one case, it fell onto a 25-story residential building; in the other, it struck an eight-story office building. Earlier, the city administration had reported debris falling in an open area in the Podilskyi district.

Media reports said surface electric transport had stopped in the city. The Kyiv City Express commuter rail service continued to operate. Oleksandr Shevchenko, deputy director of passenger services at Ukrzaliznytsia, said the railway had backup power options. Additional weekday peak-hour services between the left and right banks remained in operation, with intervals of at least 10 minutes.

Damage to an energy facility in Kyiv region also caused water supply disruptions in the capital, Klitschko said. Specialists were working to restore the water supply.

This was the second halt to Kyiv metro service in two days. On October 8, train service and escalators were temporarily suspended because of a drop in voltage in the power system amid Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. At around 19:24, trains resumed service on all three lines at longer intervals; all stations reopened to passengers.
