Today, we are bringing the long-running Amulsar saga to its conclusion, and, of course, this is unequivocally a success story. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in his speech at an event marking the launch of operations at the Amulsar mine.
According to him, the first question that needs to be addressed is why we are able to hold this event today in such a ceremonial setting, without any protests taking place nearby.
“I believe it is very important to answer this question. You all know that the Amulsar project has manifested itself in various ways, and I believe that this journey we have gone through should also be analyzed in order to adopt procedures for dealing with investment projects in the future.
I believe that one of the most important tasks is to improve public understanding and awareness of all these issues. From the very first moment we began dealing with this issue, our policy has been as follows: first, to formulate answers to all the questions concerning the public, and second, to do everything possible to ensure that the citizens of the Republic of Armenia regard this project as their own in the most visible and tangible way possible.
Let us finally acknowledge that the mineral resources that have turned into gold before our very eyes today belong to the Republic of Armenia and are the property of the Armenian people.
It has been a matter of utmost importance for us to demonstrate that this wealth will serve the development and prosperity of the Republic of Armenia. And, of course, the fate of this investment project will be of crucial importance in attracting new investment projects of this kind,” the Prime Minister said.
