In France, high school pupils and university students protesting problems related to the education system have called for the demonstrations to continue, in which hundreds of thousands of people have taken part over the past two days.
During the three weeks of protests, more than 6,000 people have been arrested, most of them minors. More than a thousand people have been injured, including police officers. France has stopped using stun grenades after a 15-year-old pupil lost their hand as a result of the explosion of such a grenade. The damage caused to educational institutions amounts to about 30 million euros.
Student protests have also taken place in the neighboring Belgian city of Liège. Participants in the action set fire to municipal property. To disperse the demonstrators, police used water cannons. More than a hundred people were detained. The students are protesting against rising tuition fees, overloaded timetables, and overcrowded classrooms.
