Rubio considers suspension of US Embassy operations in Kyiv a possibility

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not rule out suspending operations of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

"We have an embassy presence there, and we’ll make the determination about whether it’s safe for them to be there or not," he told reporters, commenting on Russia’s warnings to foreign diplomats about the danger of continuing to operate in the Ukrainian capital. "They’ve been saying that now for months. They’ve been warning diplomats to leave for months, and I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Kiev is under attack. I think that’s well understood," Rubio said.

"We analyze every single day the safety of every [US] diplomatic mission in the world, and if a threat arises that we feel needs to be addressed by a change in posture, we’ll do so. We haven’t done that up to this point there," the US secretary of state added.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said that Moscow had warned foreign embassies in Kiev by all available means about the dangers of continuing to operate in the Ukrainian capital. It is now up to the countries themselves to decide whether to continue their operations there, he stressed.
