Armenia detains Azerbaijani serviceman after Shaki shooting

On September 29, Azerbaijan’s State Security Service informed Armenia’s National Security Service that a servicemember from one of Azerbaijan’s military units had left his post under unknown circumstances. It was not ruled out that he may have illegally crossed into the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Following this notification, the relevant authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan conducted search operations, Armenia’s NSS reported.

“On October 1 at 14:15, Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs 112 Operational Management Center received a report that an Armenian citizen had been shot in the leg in the settlement of Shaki, Syunik Province.

Operational teams from various police divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were immediately dispatched to the scene. Urgent measures were taken to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident. It was determined that the crime had been committed by an Azerbaijani servicemember, who was subsequently detained.

Details of the incident were also communicated to the Azerbaijani side. Criminal proceedings have been initiated by Armenia’s Investigative Committee in connection with the incident,” the statement said.
