Armenia has won its first Medal of Excellence at the international competition “WorldSkills Shanghai 2026”

The 48th WorldSkills International Competition has concluded in Shanghai, China, where Armenia was represented by a national team competing in three skill areas: Cooking, Mobile Application Development, and Fashion Technology, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported.

As part of the competition, Armenia’s representative, Arsen Armenakyan, a graduate of the Yerevan State College of Vocational Education, received the Medal of Excellence in the Cooking category under the guidance of expert coach Arbi Gharakhanyan. This marks the first medal in the history of Armenia’s national team participation in WorldSkills competitions, in which the country has taken part six times.

Arsen Armenakyan was also awarded the Best of Nation prize as the top-performing member of Armenia’s national team.

The other members of Armenia’s team also achieved strong results. Aramayis Hayrapetyan, a student at the Yerevan State College of Informatics and a participant in the Mobile Application Development category, fell just 14 points short of receiving a Medal of Excellence, while Luiza Zakaryan, a student at the French-Armenian Vocational Center competing in the Fashion Technology category, was 37 points short.

Armenia’s representatives were selected based on the results of the national competition.

Armenia’s participation in the competition is significant not only in terms of the competitive achievements of participants and experts, but also for fostering international professional cooperation, exchanging experience, and exploring new approaches in the field of vocational education and training.

Armenia has been a member of the international WorldSkills organization since 2012 through the National Center for VET Development, which coordinates the implementation of membership obligations and related functions.

Within the framework of the competition, Armenia was also represented by an official delegation. Siranush Meloyan, Head of the VET Policy Development and Strategy Department at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, attended as an official observer.

As part of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, a three-day conference on vocational education and training was also held, focusing on skills development, the impact of artificial intelligence on educational processes, the advancement of vocational education in response to changing labor market demands, the expansion of international cooperation, and other issues related to the VET sector.
