2029 CIS Games will be held in Armenia

In 2029, the CIS Sports Games will be held in Armenia, and Yerevan will become the CIS Sports Capital. The corresponding decision was adopted at a meeting of the Council on Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS Member States, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This was announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

Armenia was represented at the meeting by Artur Sedrakyan, Head of the Policy Development and Analysis Division within the Sports Policy Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

The Council meeting took place on September 27, following the ceremonial presentation of the certificate confirming Almaty’s status as the CIS Sports Capital – 2026. Representatives from nine CIS states—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, current issues regarding cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports among CIS member states were discussed. The parties presented their ongoing work in the sector, exchanged experiences, and addressed avenues for future cooperation and the implementation of joint programs.

It is planned that the regular meeting of the Council on Physical Culture and Sports of CIS Member States will also be held in Armenia within the framework of the 2029 CIS Sports Games.
