Prospects for cooperation between Armenia and USA in mineral resources sector discussed

Armenia and the United States have discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in the critical minerals sector, including geological data exchange, modern mapping technologies, mineral processing and the development of value-added capabilities.

The discussions took place at a meeting between Hovhannes Martirosyan, Head of Armenia’s Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, and a US delegation headed by Paul Hueper, Director of the Office of Energy Supply Chains at the US Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation under the framework memorandum signed in 2026 between Armenia and the United States on the extraction, processing and secure supply of critical minerals and rare earth elements.

The sides discussed the exchange of geological data and expertise, geological mapping using modern technologies, technical capacity building, and potential cooperation in the exploration, extraction, separation and processing of Armenia’s mineral resources. They also considered projects aimed at the rehabilitation of mining areas.

Particular attention was paid to developing processing capacities capable of creating added value.

The sides also discussed strengthening the institutional foundations of cooperation, expanding practical interaction between relevant state agencies, exchanging international best practices and developing professional capacities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants stressed the importance of strengthening the resilience of regional and international supply chains and ensuring access to critical minerals, reaffirming their readiness to continue dialogue and practical cooperation in the sector.
