Trump rolls out red carpet for Chinese President Xi, in first US visit after 3 years

Reuters. US President Donald Trump rolled out a red carpet welcome for Chinese President Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland on Wednesday (September 23).

The welcome marked the first time in 11 years that a US president has greeted a foreign leader at Joint Base Andrews. The last such reception was for Pope Francis in 2015 during Barack Obama's presidency.

At the arrival ceremony, the leaders and their wives shook hands, spoke for a few minutes and stood for pictures as a military band played, cannons blasted and a B-1 military bomber flew overhead.

Trump is expected to address a wide range of issues over trade, technology and Tehran in his meeting with Xi.
