Opportunities for mutual integration of energy systems of South Caucasus countries and deepening of regional energy cooperation discussed

Chairman of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Mesrop Mesropyan met with Pedro Verdelho, President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), and representatives of the EU4Energy program on the sidelines of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER IX) in Tbilisi.

The meeting was also attended by Davit Narmania, Chairman of Georgia’s National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), and Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA).

Mesropyan thanked the European energy regulators and the EU4Energy program for their technical assistance in regulating Armenia’s energy sector and for the close cooperation established between the sides.

He also emphasized the importance of the support provided for developing the secondary legislation required for the construction of energy storage facilities envisaged under Armenia’s energy legislation.

The participants discussed opportunities for greater integration of the energy systems of South Caucasus countries and deeper regional energy cooperation. They also exchanged views on possible steps toward connecting the region’s energy systems with Türkiye’s energy system.
