Turkey and US support peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan: Fidan

Turkey and the United States support the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and are also making efforts to reduce the risks of escalating tensions in the Caucasus and the Black Sea, TRT Haber reports, citing a statement made by Turkey’s foreign minister in New York. 

Speaking at the panel discussion “Turkish-American Relations on the Threshold of the 100th Anniversary,” Hakan Fidan emphasized the importance of cooperation between Ankara and Washington in maintaining global peace and stability. He added that the partnership between the two countries creates new opportunities for the region’s development and the preservation of peace.

Fidan also noted that the Black Sea region should not become a source of problems, but should instead serve as a platform for international cooperation.

In the context of a Russian-Ukrainian settlement, Fidan said that Ankara continues to actively maintain contacts with both Kyiv and Moscow and supports dialogue and diplomacy.

According to the Turkish diplomat, amid the current geopolitical changes, it is necessary to build effective partnerships between global powers and leading regional actors.

Turkey’s foreign minister noted that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hopes that his relations with his American counterpart Donald Trump will contribute to the further development of regional cooperation.
