United Russia projects securing more than half of votes in Russian State Duma elections

Voting in Russia’s State Duma election, which lasted three days, has ended, Russian media report.

After nearly 88% of the ballots in the Russian State Duma election had been counted, the ruling United Russia party had received 57.87% of the vote, the Communists 13.84%, the Liberal Democrats 8.86%, the New People party 7.94%, and A Just Russia 4.95%.

United Russia candidates are also leading in 208 of the 225 single-mandate constituencies. This means that the ruling party will secure more than 301 seats in parliament, the number required for a constitutional majority.

This time, Russia’s three-day parliamentary election was also held in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Yabloko, the only major party openly opposing the war, was not registered to participate in the election.

The Central Election Commission also reports that the party is entering the eighth-convocation Novgorod Regional Duma after 96.86% of the ballots had been processed.

The State Duma has 450 seats. Half of them are allocated through federal party lists, while the other half are elected based on the results of voting in single-mandate constituencies.
