Minister of Environment and UK Ambassador discussed organizational issues of COP17 to be held in Armenia in 2026

Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan has met with UK Ambassador to Armenia John Gallagher to discuss the organizational matters pertaining to the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) which will take place in Armenia in 2026.

In a post on social media, Matevosyan said he discussed with the ambassador the entire organizational process of COP17, including the financial, technical and partnership components.

“Ambassador Gallagher was interested in our needs and challenges. He emphasized that the United Kingdom is expressing readiness to support and we shall clarify the directions where the support would be maximally targeted and effective,” Matevosyan said.

The meeting also addressed the National Biodiversity Strategy and Armenia’s steps toward implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework.

“I presented our progress. We also touched upon Armenia’s participation in COP30 and the possible composition of the delegation. We noted the importance of our engagement in such conferences in terms of exchange of experience and deepening international ties. Since Ambassador Gallagher is completing his diplomatic mission in Armenia, I expressed gratitude for the productive and constructive cooperation and his efforts towards strengthening the relationship with Armenia,” the minister said.
