Despite all the difficulties and challenges, the Government, and I personally, will not deviate from the peace agenda. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during the April 15 session of the National Assembly while presenting the 2024 progress and results report of the 2021–2026 Government Action Plan.
“Obviously, certain forces, both in Armenia and abroad, are conducting daily propaganda for war and are engaging in concrete actions aimed at bringing war to life. Among these actions, Azerbaijan’s war rhetoric stands out, accompanied by practical steps, expressed in false accusations against Armenia for violating the ceasefire regime and by frequent, if not daily, violations of the ceasefire by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
These violations are mostly indiscriminate, though there have been two specific incidents in the past month targeting the village of Khnatsakh in Syunik province.
Nonetheless, indiscriminate gunfire has been reported in several settlements across our Republic. These incidents are either a result of indiscipline within the Azerbaijani Armed Forces or are aimed at exerting psychological pressure on the population of those settlements. The Republic of Armenia calls on the Republic of Azerbaijan to investigate these incidents and take measures to put an end to them.
I personally reaffirm that I have given a clear order to the Armenian army not to violate the ceasefire regime. The Republic of Armenia is also ready to examine any information regarding alleged ceasefire violations by our own forces. At the same time, I once again propose to Azerbaijan the creation of a joint investigative mechanism to address border incidents, including ceasefire violations, which would function on a daily basis.
In this context, I find it necessary to address all the narratives predicting a new escalation or even a new war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. There is absolutely no justification for war. Armenia and Azerbaijan have recognized each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, the inviolability of internationally recognized borders, and the inadmissibility of the use or threat of force.
Based on these realities, I call on all political forces and individuals in both Armenia and Azerbaijan to act with utmost responsibility, to refrain from statements that directly or indirectly contradict this logic, and not to cast doubt upon it. There is no future in such an approach.
The peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan deserve peace and peaceful coexistence. There will be no war, there will be peace”, Pashinyan said.
