The Palestinian death toll had reached 50,944, with 116,156 others wounded, since the outbreak of the latest round of the Hamas-Israel conflict on Oct 7, 2023, said Gaza-based health authorities on Sunday, Reuters reports.
Over the past 24 hours, 11 remains and 111 injured ones were sent to medical institutions, said the health authorities.
Israel resumed its offensive in Gaza on March 18 following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire. Since then, 1,574 people have been killed and 4,115 others wounded.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday that it launched strikes against more than 90 targets in Gaza in the past two days, including the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City.
Many facilities of the hospital, including its emergency department, surgical department and pharmacy, were damaged or destroyed in the air strikes, and a patient died due to lack of emergency treatment when he was transferred to the street.
The Gaza-based health authorities condemned Israel for the hospital attack.
The IDF claimed that there was a Hamas' command center in the hospital, with its armed personnel ready to attack Israel.
In response, Hamas termed the IDF's statement as a lie, urging international investigation into the hospital strike.
According to the Gaza-based health authorities, Israeli attacks on Sunday left at least 30 people dead in Gaza.
Also on Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that if Hamas refuses to release Israeli detainees, the IDF will intensify the offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has accused Israel of attempting to limit the ceasefire talks to an exchange of detainees, rather than a permanent end to the conflict.
