During the session of the Uruguayan Chamber of Representatives, MPs addressed at the initiative of Uruguayan Armenian lawmaker Jose Luis Satdjian the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Embassy of Armenia to Uruguay reports.
Representatives of all political forces represented in the Uruguayan parliament supported Satdjian's initiative and made speeches, proudly noting that Uruguay was the first country to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Besides, MPs Jose Luis Satdjian, Ana Olivera, and Pedro Jisdonian addressed the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the issue of Armenian captives illegally held in Azerbaijan, recalling that the Uruguayan parliament unanimously adopted a statement calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release all Armenians captives.
Besides, the Uruguayan legislators expressed their special respect to and solidarity with the Armenian people and the Uruguayan Armenian community, welcomed Armenian Ambassador Mariam Gevorgyan, who was in attendance to the session, and lauded the activities of the embassy of Armenia in Uruguay.
