Reuters/CCTV. China and the European Union (EU) should jointly safeguard free and open trade and investment to inject more stability and certainty into both sides and the world economy, said Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday.
Li made the remarks during a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations, Li recalled Chinese President Xi Jinping's phone call with European Council President Antonio Costa earlier this year, saying the conversation set the tone and charted the course for deepening China-EU relations.
China is willing to enhance political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation with the EU, resolve each other's concerns through dialog and consultation, and promote the continuous development of China-EU relations, said Li.
China and the EU should strengthen communication and coordination, expand mutual opening, safeguard free and open trade and investment, so as to inject more stability and certainty into both sides and the world economy, said the Chinese premier.
China is full of confidence in maintaining the sustained and healthy development of its economy, and will continue to unswervingly expand opening up, strengthen cooperation with other countries and share development opportunities.
Von der Leyen stressed the paramount importance of maintaining the continuity and stability of EU-China relations.
The additional tariffs imposed by the United States have severely impacted international trade, she added.
The EU and China are committed to upholding the multilateral trade system, which serves the common interests of both sides and the world, said Von der Leyen.
