US President Donald Trump has called on Russia to stop its strikes on Ukraine. The Kremlin, in turn, stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin "supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but a number of questions must first be answered", AP reports.
Associated Press released a video showing US President Donald Trump calling on Russia to stop its strikes on Ukraine.
"We are talking to Russia. We would like them to stop. I don’t like the bombing. The bombing goes on and on. Every week people, thousands of young people are being killed," Trump said.
The US president reiterated his usual line, saying that the Russo-Ukrainian war "would have never started if I were a president, 100%".
"President Putin indeed supports the idea of a ceasefire, but before that, a number of questions need to be answered. These questions are hanging in the air, and so far, no one has provided any answers." [N.B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]" Kremlin's Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated.
This was Peskov’s response to Trump’s comments, in which he expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s strikes on Ukraine and stressed that they must stop.
Peskov reiterated the Kremlin’s usual narrative about the mythical "denazification and demilitarisation" of Ukraine. He said that the questions requiring answers are linked to "the lack of control of the Kyiv regime and the inability of the Kyiv regime to control the actions of a number of extremist nationalist units that simply do not obey Kyiv".
