The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus. According to the Parliament’s press service, Kurtulmus congratulated Papuashvili on his re-election, emphasizing that the will of the people must be respected and should serve as a foundation for future development, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
Both sides highlighted the long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation between Georgia and Turkey.
The meeting focused on strengthening parliamentary ties. The speakers agreed to establish a trilateral cooperation format between Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan at the level of parliamentary chairpersons in the near future.
Kurtulmus invited Papuashvili to visit Turkey.
They also discussed regional and global developments, including peace initiatives related to the war in Ukraine and the new U.S. presidential administration.
Papuashvili thanked his Turkish counterpart for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The meeting took place during the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Georgian delegation, led by Papuashvili, includes Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Maia Bitadze, Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee.
