Reuters. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday (April 3) met with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the EU Council Antonio Costa ahead of the first EU- Central Asia partnership summit in Samarkand.
Leaders of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan are also expected to take part in the summit, local media reported.
In an interview with Euronews published ahead of the summit, Mirziyoyev said the main areas of discussion will be economy, trade, energy and transport.
"We expect to deepen the political dialogue and develop new mechanisms of interaction that will make our cooperation more systemic and focused on long-term goals," the Uzbek president said.
At the end of the summit in Samarkand, a joint declaration is expected to be signed.
