Armenia highly appreciates Germany’s continuous support aimed at promoting sustainable economic and social development, President Vahagn Khachaturyan said at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Yerevan.
Khachaturyan said that the German president’s visit is a testament to the friendship between the two peoples and the significance of bilateral ties.
“I’m glad that today we had the chance to productively discuss the Armenian-German cooperation in various sectors” President Khachaturyan said.
The development of economic ties was also discussed, he added.
“We were pleased to note that Germany is one of the main trading partners of Armenia, the first among EU countries,” Khachaturyan said.
He said Armenia values Germany’s support aimed at promoting sustainable economic and social development in many areas, including education, renewable energy and infrastructures.
Khachaturyan said he thanked the German president for supporting Armenia’s democratic reforms.
The growing ties with the EU and Germany’s role in this context were also discussed.
Regional developments were also discussed, and the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts based on international norms and the principles of sovereignty and equality of the parties was emphasized.
“We attached importance to the German government’s consistent support for efforts aimed at Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization. I presented to my colleague the work done by Armenia for establishing stability and peace in South Caucasus. I once again underscored the importance of unblocking of regional infrastructures and in this context the Crossroads of Peace project,” President Khachaturyan said.
