Finnish President Alexander Stubb made a surprise trip on Saturday (March 29) to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida, where the two leaders discussed strengthening their countries' bilateral partnership and played a round of golf, Reuters reports.
In a post on Truth Social platform Trump said that the partnership discussed between the two includes "the purchase and development of a large number of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S., delivering Peace and International Security for our Countries, and the World."
On Sunday, Stubb said he had told Trump that a deadline needs to be set for establishing a Ukraine ceasefire in order to make it happen.
Since taking office in January, Trump has focused heavily on ending what he calls a "ridiculous" war in Ukraine. Earlier this week the United States announced separate agreements with Ukraine and Russia to pause their strikes in the Black Sea and against each other's energy targets.
Stubb told reporters Trump's patience with Russia was running out and the U.S. had "far-reaching" plans if Russia will not accept a ceasefire. Trump then said he was "pissed off" at Russian President Vladimir Putin and will impose secondary tariffs of 25% to 50% on buyers of Russian oil if he feels Moscow is blocking his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump told NBC News he was very angry after Putin last week criticized the credibility of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's leadership, the television network reported, citing a telephone interview early on Sunday.
