The Margara checkpoint has been opened for the passage of a humanitarian aid convoy to Syria, and what has happened so far is not unprecedented, because in January 2023, the checkpoint was also opened so that humanitarian aid sent by the Government of the Republic of Armenia could reach Turkey, the earthquake zone. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, answering the question of the MP of the Civil Contract faction Sona Ghazaryan.
“In that sense, I think that, of course, it is an important event, but it is not unprecedented. I would not want us to underestimate that event, but I would not want us to overestimate it either.
There is another circumstance that, I think, deserves special attention, which I am not sure that our society has paid that attention to, is that as of March 1, 2025, all points of entry and exit of the Republic of Armenia are under the control of Armenia's border guards, and this is an extremely important event that is worth to be emphasized.
I would like to once again thank the border guards of the Russian Federal Security Service for carrying out this function at our border checkpoints since independence, and express satisfaction that we are now able to carry out this sovereign function,” Pashinyan noted.
