I have nothing new to say regarding the return of POWs, because the tools we have used in the past, we continue to use today and must use in the future. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in the National Assembly, responding to the question of the 'Armenia' faction MP Lilit Galstyan regarding POWs.
Referring to the concerns regarding making concessions, Pashinyan noted: “I want to emphasize again that there is not a single sentence in the draft peace agreement that refers to or creates obligations for the Republic of Armenia and does not create obligations for Azerbaijan. Such a word, sentence, phrase simply does not exist. I think that we have a very important task. We, in general, need to better understand the world in which we live, the rules that operate in that world, the environment in which we operate.”
Regarding the withdrawal of the lawsuits against Azerbaijan in international instances, the Prime Minister said: “The moment of withdrawal of claims comes into force after the agreement is signed and ratified. Withdrawal of claims applies not only to Armenia, but also to Azerbaijan. As a result of withdrawal of these claims, the more Armenia weakens, the weaker Azerbaijan will become. This is a fundamental statement.”
According to Nikol Pashinyan, there is a much more fundamental question. “The question is, do we, the people of Armenia, want to continue the Karabakh movement or do we not want to continue it? I would not be honest if I did not state my opinion very directly from this rostrum after the statement that I made earlier from this very rostrum during the discussion of the Government’s reports, saying how the Karabakh movement was used on the path to the failure of Armenia’s statehood. I want to say it clearly and unequivocally, without any pretense: "I think that we should not continue the Karabakh movement. I want to say that the peace we are pursuing is the most effective way to resolve the POW issue. There is no more effective way," he noted.
